ALL of the rules are fake
My thoughts on pivoting, making your own rules, and a special business announcement.
Yesterday I had the honor of being a guest on the Inner Warmup podcast. (I will share the episode when it goes live in a few months!) During the interview, Taylor asked me about the many pivots I’ve made in both my life and business and how that strength and resilience have served me over the years. I won’t spoil the episode but I’ve had to do a lot of unlearning to get to this point. Now, one of the most common questions that I am often asked is, “How do I keep pivoting?”
I believe that pivoting is 70% mindset and 30% action. There are a lot of internal beliefs that you have to shift and a lot of decisions that have to be made before you can even begin to make outward changes. And making that mindset shift is often the hardest part. I’ve shared before that I often second-guess myself and struggle with decision fatigue which makes pivoting sometimes feel like torture. But the one thought that I keep in mind when going through this process is that all of the rules are fake. Especially when it comes to entrepreneurship.
Over the years we’ve allowed so many gurus and marketing bros make us believe that there was only one way to do business. You had to stay in your lane, pick a profitable niche, and follow every marketing trend that popped onto the scene. The problem with that type of thinking is that it will keep you stagnant. Instead of branching out and doing something outside of the norm, you’re made to believe that by not sticking to the “rules” you’re headed straight for failure.
