Last week I was let go from my full-time job.
A job that I loved, a job where I saw growth and a job that saved me during a time when I didn't know wtf I was going to do after I closed my coaching business.
As you can expect, along with a slew of other emotions, I felt intense disappointment. The type of disappointment that takes you down and forces you to doubt everything.
Unfortunately, this isn't my first rodeo with disappointment and certainly won't be my last. What I've learned about disappointment over the years is that:
It's inevitable and an unfortunate part of life.
You can either push through it or let it keep knocking you out.
Throughout your journey whether you're an entrepreneur, seeking a new relationship, new career or whatever else, disappointment will happen.
But how you respond to that disappointment is up to you. So the next time the inevitable happens, try this:
Feel your feelings. Give yourself the time and grace that you need to yell, cry, scream or vent. Disappointment doesn't feel good and we shouldn't try to pretend that it doesn't ache.
Remind yourself who you are. Disappointment will have you doubting your entire calling. Before you begin to believe it, remind yourself of who you are and all that you have accomplished.
Pray on what's next. I recently heard this quote from Dyana Marie, "Allow space and grace for detours but do not change the vision." Just because this one route doesn't work out for you, doesn't mean you're supposed to give up. Rework the plan and try again.
Disappointment hurts but it doesn't define you.
Cheers to a restful week.
