Hey friend!
This week is my first week of "Funemployment."
And also my first week of diving back into entrepreneurship.
As I sat down Monday morning to think about the week ahead, not even an hour into planning, I found myself falling back into old habits.
Look, I am well aware that I'm a recovering work-a-holic. And one of my symptoms is that I often don't feel like I've done enough if every minute of my day isn't filled with a task, project or meeting. And years of being sucked into hustle culture has also made me believe that if I don't end the day exhausted, did I even work?
So as I sat there on Monday scribbling away, I caught myself filling up the week with tasks that could literally last me the rest of the month.
As soon as I caught on to what my mind was doing, I went back, scratched out everything and started over with the goal of accomplishing only ONE task per day.
Now I know what you're probably thinking...
"Girl you don't have a job! You don't have time to not work."
You're right, I do need to work! But I'm also committed to not falling back into old patterns and allowing work to completely take over my life and the good mental space I've worked hard to get to.
But I do recognize that in some seasons (like the one i'm in now) working a little harder is required.
So how am I balancing working hard with also giving myself time to rest?
Everyday has a theme. I go into each day with one "theme" in mind. For example, Tuesdays are the days that I write and schedule this newsletter. Only focusing on one theme each day helps to eliminate overwhelm & stops me from doing the most!
Be intentional about rest. This means no more "working lunches." I close my laptop, eat and maybe take a nap before I finish out the rest of my work day.
Increase my quality of sleep. I am no good if I'm tired. And pushing hard on work when you're already depleted just leads to burnout. So I've revamped my nightly routine to make sure I'm getting the best sleep possible.
You may be in a season of "hustle" or just trying to manage running your business with the other 50-11 things you have going on. But keep in mind, while you may be called to work harder than normal or put in more hours, you come first. Work will be there. The tasks will be there.
Take care of you first!
Cheers to a restful week!
