Issue #61: More money doesn't always equal more rest
No matter what we have been made to believe, more money doesn’t automatically create better habits.
While building Mind Body Brand, I have been doing a ton of customer research to help me get clear on what entrepreneurs need and what roadblocks they are facing when it comes to making rest a priority.
Over the past few months, I’ve heard that what’s needed is more time management skills, getting over the guilt of taking time out for rest, and figuring out what rest and self-care look like for them. But in addition to those needs, I’ve also got a few responses about money. Many of the entrepreneurs that I’ve either spoken to or have completed a survey believe that if they were making more money in their business, they would then have more time to rest.
And I completely understand the reasoning behind that theory. If you’re making more money, then you have more resources to invest in delegating tasks and setting up better automations in your business. But unfortunately from what I’ve both seen and experienced, that’s not typically how that scenario plays out.
See, many of us think that more money gives us more freedom. And in many ways that is absolutely true. IF, you have the discipline to stick with the plan. The problem is that we create this big money goal that we want to hit before we begin to make rest a priority so for months or maybe even years, we go all in and hustle hard towards hitting that goal.
But you know what typically ends up happening once we hit that goal? We set another big goal and fail to make the changes in our personal life that we promised we would. We keep telling ourselves that if we can just make a little more THEN we’ll make time for rest. If we can just hit the next goal, then we’ll make the necessary changes needed to prioritize our well-being.
We get so caught up in the hustle and feeling the high of hitting the next big goal, that we completely forget that making more was supposed to be our way to attaining more freedom and time for ourselves. And you know what happens when you keep grinding constantly towards the next goal? You burn out. And you become one of the hundreds of thousands of people who are financially well off, but internally miserable.
Don’t get me wrong. I WANT YOU TO MAKE A LOT OF MONEY! But you need to apply some barriers around those goals so you don’t end up down a slippery slope of all work and no rest.
So how do you keep rest at the top of your mind as you’re working toward that big money goal? Start making rest a priority NOW! You may not be where you want to be financially but you can still find time in your day to begin making habits that will stick with you when you start bringing in the big bucks. Whether you only have 5 extra minutes in the morning or an hour in the evening after your kids go to bed. Be intentional about YOUR time and make it a priority just like your marketing plan. Because no matter what we have been made to believe, more money doesn’t automatically create better habits.
Cheers to an incredible week!
