A few days ago, I sat in bed browsing through the shopping apps on my iPhone in search of a few everyday basics to add to my struggling wardrobe. I found the t-shirts that I was looking for, added them to the cart, and proceeded to checkout. After entering my shipping information, my eyes widened when I saw that shipping would take nearly two weeks and would also cost me over $10. Without even thinking twice, I closed the app and decided that I would just place a Target drive-up order instead. 🥴 I know you’ve done this too.
We live in a “microwave society.” Meaning we are all conditioned to not only want the results we desire but we want them immediately. You can order anything from Amazon and often have it arrive at your doorstep by the next morning. And in some cases later on that day. Groceries can be ordered with a few clicks within an app. Not to mention I can’t remember the last time we’ve had to sit through unwanted TV commercials.
Everything that we desire can be handed to us quickly and with ease.
And the self-help industry has also taken notice.

The YouTube algorithm must know that I’ve had a rough year because nearly 50% of the videos that it recommends to me are all based on how to change your life in a very specific amount of time. And since I’m a sucker for a quick fix, of course I watched them.
