Hey friend!
When I think about our overall well-being, I of course think about our mind; how do you push past all of the junk that makes you feel like you’re less than? You know, the fear, imposter syndrome, and comparison.
I of course can’t forget about the body. I am no fitness guru and do not push diet culture, but I see the value in moving your body daily and prioritizing rest.
And lastly, there is your emotional health. How do you really feel? Do you have a supportive network? Are you doing things daily that make you happy?
But there is another big piece of our overall well-being that I haven’t publicly talked about much. And that’s our spiritual well-being.
Don’t worry, I’m not here to tell you what you should believe in but I do believe that maintaining good spiritual health can improve your thoughts and increase a sense of hope when this entrepreneur ride gets bumpy.
My journey with maintaining my spiritual health I won’t say has been complicated but over the years I have had to do a lot of unlearning.
I grew up and still identify as a Christian but have found my own path over the years. As a kid, I had to go to church every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. I was made to believe that living anything other than a perfect life would condemn me to hell and that desiring more somehow made me unappreciative of what I had.
Now, I am extremely grateful for the foundation that was laid for me. As I’ve mentioned throughout my book, Living Over Existing, my faith is what has made continuing to be an entrepreneur possible. In the book, I reference scripture and my journey with God guiding me because I felt it would be impossible to tell my story without including where my resilience was rooted.
But throughout that journey, I found myself really angry with God and my perspective on religion and spirituality. I always thought that when I prayed for something it had to happen. I thought I could have what I desired if I did everything right. And if I didn’t get it, then that obviously meant that a higher power was punishing me.
What I was experiencing in my life didn’t seem to align with what I grew up knowing. And it caused a lot of anger and confusion.
So I did research for myself. I read different translations of the bible that made more sense to me. I began listening to leaders who explained the word in ways that were relatable to the real world. And I’ve had many simple, straightforward conversations with God for myself. And over the years, I’ve built up my own spiritual muscle and while I’m still learning, I understand more of why certain things need to happen the way that they do.
You’re probably wondering how all of this relates back to entrepreneurship.
Well, I believe that you can have all of the motivation, grit, and hustle in the world but if you want emotional ease, then you have to place your struggles in something that is bigger than yourself. You know our motto here is “Entrepreneurship is hard AF” and carrying all of the disappointments, failures, and hard decisions that come with being an entrepreneur is going to burn you out just as fast as hustling with no rest will.
You can’t carry every burden, emotion, or decision on your own. And again, I’m not telling you who or what you should believe in but tending to your spiritual health is just as important as your mental, physical, and emotional health.
I’d love to know more about what your journey has been like navigating your spiritual health. Let’s chat in the comments!
Cheers to a restful week!

BEFORE YOU GO…
Take a deep breath!
I'm working on mine! It's been a bit rocky lately after losing my mom. I still believe in God but probably in a less traditional Christian way than even before. I trust that what I need will come to me and who knows? Maybe I'll come back to the Bible someday.
Right now I talk to God through tarot cards when I'm called to them, and I want/need to get better at speaking to Him at other times! But it does help to have something guiding you. It does for me at least!
