Issue #69: What to do when doing life well feels impossible.
A little reminder that it is ok to do nothing.
What do you do when life feels like it is sucking all of the joy out of you? What do you do when the kids are screaming, the dishes are piled up in the kitchen, and deadlines are looming over your head? What do you do when you’re so emotionally drained that you feel it over your entire body?
You take a deep breath and you do nothing.
You let the kids miss their bedtime, you throw your dishes in the dishwasher and run it twice, and you temporarily let go of the deadlines.
You give yourself permission to do what YOU need to regulate your nervous system or you do nothing. Whether that be for 10 minutes, a few hours, or a few days. You put a pause on the chaos and you nurture yourself.
One thing I have learned when life just keeps life-ing is that trying to push harder only wears you out faster. And when you’re worn out, it’s nearly impossible for you to think clearly enough to sift through the chaos and make decisions. So instead of going into survival mode, give yourself a moment to do nothing. And when the anxiousness passes, you then step into deciding on what needs to be done next.
I hope this gives you the permission that you need this week.
Cheers to a restful week!
