Issue #89: There are still good people on the internet
On finding community on one of the scariest places on Earth...the internet.
Do you know what would go perfectly with this week’s issue? My new Doing Today Well journal! This journal is designed to help you start and end each day with intention and track your journey while prioritizing self-care.
My kryptonite as an entrepreneur is the number of new ideas I come up with daily. I am a multi-passionate creative who loves the challenge of building something new but who also gets extremely bored post-launch. So, it’s easy for me to quickly pivot to the next idea. 🥴
While I love that I am an “ideas person,” I’m also realizing more and more (thanks to therapy) that if I want to have the success that I desire, then I need to be able to see a project (or in my case) a business through to the end before jumping to the next “shiny object.”
I’ve been journaling through these thoughts for the past few weeks and answering the question, “What do I REALLY want?” As my list continued to grow with all of the God-given ideas I’d been given, the joy of dreaming quickly turned into the panic of “How am I going to do all of this?”
So, on Saturday night, in a fit of frustration, I wrote this message on Threads:
At the time of posting, I just needed to vent, so I hit “post” and went about my evening as normal.
Imagine my surprise when I woke up the next morning to see that my post not only resonated with a lot of people who were feeling the exact same way, but it was also lowkey going viral. 🥴
Views are great, but what made me light up was the fact that the thread itself was filled with so much love.
As we all know, social media can be a hateful place where the miserable try to cause outrage in hopes of attention and virality. Especially now during Election season. The comments on this post could have gone left very quickly, and I would have had to spend the better half of my day blocking idiots. Instead, there has been nothing but incredible messages from other humans sharing their best multi-passionate tips, encouragement, and the reassurance that I’m not alone in the way that I feel.
Even some of the creative women I admire the most chimed in!
This is the side of the internet that I want to be on. The side where people with shared interests can be encouraged and find their people. The side where we can all come together over something positive instead of shouting at each other because of hate.
And you know what? The encouragement from this post was exactly what I needed to sit down and create a timeline and action plan for how I am going to fulfill ALL of my ideas.
Two points I want you to walk away with today:
Be kind. It literally costs nothing for you to say something nice or don’t say anything at all.
Having a solid community is vital. Life and entrepreneurship are hard and we need to be surrounded by people who can encourage and uplift us in the same way the people on this thread did for me.
Cheers to a restful week!
