As of late, I have been noticing more and more people in their 30s and 40s share that they have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. Could the cause of these late diagnoses be because we finally are at the age where we have more say-so around the medical care we receive or the fact that many of our parents just didn’t know how to advocate for us properly? It could be a mix of both. But with so many of my entrepreneur friends now having to figure out how to work well with this new diagnosis, I knew that this was a topic that I wanted to dig a little deeper into.
On the show this week I brought in Alex Gilbert to chat all about all things ADHD, specifically as an entrepreneur.
Alex Gilbert is a New Yorker, a mom, a Mets fan, a yogi, and a brunch enthusiast. She also has dyslexia and ADHD. After spending her career working in leadership development, she decided to start a consulting and coaching business that will help adults with learning disabilities and/or ADHD like herself who have been struggling in their careers. Her business, Cape-Able Consulting, was created to help them navigate their day-to-day workloads so that they feel supported and are able to reach their highest potential. Her biggest goal in creating Cape-Able Consulting is to change the stigma surrounding learning disabilities/ ADHD by reminding people what they Cape-able of.
In this episode, we dive into:
How a lack of ADHD resources for adults led her to launch her consulting business.
The first steps you can begin to take to get diagnosed and why it can be difficult for women and POC to get a proper diagnosis.
How she schedules her day as an entrepreneur with ADHD and how she leans more into what she is good at and outsources the rest.
Her advice for better working with someone on your team who may have ADHD.
